Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) has appointed George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government professor David K. Rehr to the board of directors of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy.

Known as Virginia Humanities, the bipartisan foundation works to elevate and make accessible the humanities across the commonwealth by sharing stories of Virginians that deepen and enrich the state’s long and essential history.

Serving on the foundation board will allow me to encourage even greater diversity, inclusion, and opportunity, as well as continuing to celebrate the rich and significant history of the commonwealth,” said Rehr, who earned a PhD in economics in 1997 from Mason. “As a father and as an academic, you can never peak in your understanding of all the vast perspectives on the humanities and how it informs and shapes us, as well as shaping future generations.”

Rehr is founding director of the Schar School’s Center for Business Civic Engagement, which promotes advocacy and best business practices in policy settings, and cofounder of the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Initiative, which educates the public about the benefits of more effective and efficient software automation.

Virginia Humanities, founded in 1974, is one of 56 humanities councils supported with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Virginia Humanities is located at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
