Schar School of Policy and Government Professor J.P. Singh has been named a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow by the board of the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin. It is the second time Singh has been named to the global fellowship.
Weizsäcker Fellows are selected through a rigorous nomination process as the academy identifies thought leaders who can contribute to an international conversation regarding German and global policy decisions. The fellows include politicians, including heads of states, policy makers, prominent journalists, and renowned scholars. The fellowship is considered one of the most prestigious in Germany and includes a temporary residency in Berlin.
“As part of my fellowship in 2019, I gave a presentation to Members of Parliament at the Bundestag and made a public presentation that was moderated by Senior Correspondent Moritz Koch from the business newspaper Handelsblatt,” said Singh, who is a professor in the Schar School’s Master’s in International Commerce and Policy graduate program.
Singh is looking forward to a second opportunity to work alongside Germany’s political leadership. The Bosch Academy, said Singh, “provides great access to the top echelons of German policy making. Each of us is encouraged to take up a project and engage with German politicians, the industry, and policymakers.” Singh plans to research German innovation, engineering, and competitiveness.
Singh has advised the World Bank and the World Trade Organization for trade and international development, and the British Council and UNESCO on international cultural policies. He has also authored multiple monographs, edited several books, and published dozens of scholarly articles. From 2016-18, he was Chair and Professor of Culture and Political Economy, and Director of the Institute for International Cultural Relations (IICR) at the University of Edinburgh.
